heres the full list with lots of words but its a wip that when finished will eventually get posted in my worldbuildy thread, it also contains exciting mechanics spoilers for the inevitable next oress plot!! i rec looking at it bc it has wayyyy more details for all of the oresses before flyri:
ok now here's the short list:
Ilnaine: Powered by faith. Capable of summoning beings from any given Reality, be it just channeling them through the holder's body or just opening up a portal that a huge-ass dragon comes out of.
Fyel: Powered by anger. Controls fire and heat.
Unzeh: Powered by courage. Allows the user to summon animals, communicate with animals, control animals, and transform into animals. Transformation can be total or partial (like giving oneself bear claws or a bat's echolocation.)
Elmand: Powered by protectiveness. Allows the user to create and control barriers of orange light. The size, opacity, etc can be controlled freely. Also increases the holder's physical durability.
Kinet: Powered by vitality. Grants super strength, super speed, etc.; basically super-enhanced reflexes and physical ability.
Atelobe: Powered by anxiety. Grants the ability to teleport, as well as teleport other beings and objects.
Lirna: Powered by happiness. Allows the user to create and control light. Also can create illusions and cause glowing burns.
Thyx: Powered by excitement. Allows the user to create and control electricity. Like Fyel and Lirna, it causes special burns that can be read about in the longer thing that isn't done.
Vixis: Powered by paranoia. Aside from eye lasers, Vixis grants x-ray vision, night vision, etc. Users can also see through the eyes of others, control people's eyes, look at places they're nowhere near, and swap around people's visions.
Crona: Powered by nostalgia. Allows the user to control time, at least within the restraints of a given thread's fairness...
Flyri: Powered by benevolence. Allows the user to communicate with, create, and control plants.
Sytel: Powered by anticipation. Grants the user psychic abilities such as mind-reading, telepathy, and telekinesis.
Kleigh: Powered by confidence. Grants the user the ability to know everything... except about people, but they can unlock everything about a person with enough concentration if the person's soul is weaker than their own.
Cenoir: Powered by friendship. Allows the user to possess, communicate with, and control inanimate objects.
Mikimi: Powered by capriciousness. Allows the user to shapeshift into anything.
Icisa: Powered by focus. Allows the user to create and control ice as well as being able to make things colder or restore them to their original temperature.
Quasea: Powered by clarity. Allows the user to create and control water. They also gain the ability to breathe underwater and survive underwater pressure changes.
Shan: Powered by hatred. Allows the user to create and control physical darkness as well as make surroundings darker or return them to their initial state. They can travel through shadows as well, able to drag people down with them into a realm of pure darkness.
Onlarue: Powered by introspection. Allows the user to travel into the minds and subconsciousnesses of others, as well as the ability to detect soul vibes, swap souls, read minds, and view dreams.
Poice: Powered by curiosity. Allows the user to create and control poisons, from toxic chemicals to acids. Also grants the user immunity to any form of poison.
Blizume: Powered by apathy. Grants the user the abilities of intangibility and invisibility (visible only to users of Vixis.)
Neladi: Powered by creativity. Grants the user to create and manipulate sound, including weaponizing sound waves, changing their voice, changing the voices of others, eliminating all sound, etc.
Lesni: Powered by longing. Allows the user to control gravity and summon small stars, meteors, black holes, etc. Space powers, basically. They also gain the ability to survive in space, including not needing to breathe and being able to exist under tremendous amounts of pressure.
Maiex: Powered by open-mindedness. Gives the user the ability of stage magic, but for real! Pulling things out of hats, shooting out deadly playing cards, making things disappear, etc.
Entria: Powered by love. Allows the user to manipulate the emotions of others as well as their own emotions.
Ciess: Powered by passion. Allows the user to manipulate their own soul energy, able to create weaponry and other objects out of it to fight with. For soul-based beings they can also provide healing by giving them some of their soul energy.
Vitara: Powered by hope. Grants the ability to heal others, even from the brink of death. The user also heals faster.
Guindet: Powered by, uh, lust apparently. Allows the user to manipulate their own body, like giving themselves stretchy limbs or being able to swallow an Oress.
Arode: Powered by stubbornness. Allows the user to create and manipulate earth, from sand and dirt to stones and mountains. Doesn't work on jewels nor anything that's been refined into metal, glass, etc.
Josmec: Powered by irritation. Holds the power to nullify other powers - useful in a world where just about everyone has them. Also allows the user to "steal" any power used against them or swap around the abilities of others.
Priste: Powered by vanity. Allows the user to create and control metal, or really just like... refined earth, y'know?? Jewels and glass count in here, basically. All that sparkly stuff.
Aelle: Powered by serenity. Allows the user to control air and breathe in any conditions.
and yeah! hope you enjoyed my balls! in the final thing i might change some emotions around - like i don't even have anyone who's powered by sadness or grief anymore wtf. or disgust or absentmindedness or acceptance or hunger but ya know
Ilnaine || Summoning || Faith || Dark Red
Ilnaine is capable of summoning beings from other realms. Its User can summon anything from an angry god or massive dragon to a lonely lower spirit or their BFF who happens to live in another world. The weaker and smaller the summon, the easier the summon is to call upon, maintain, and control. Additionally, considerably less power is used if the summon is aware and consenting of their summoning. Ilnaine can also channel beings to possess their own body, which uses less energy than summoning a being wholly. If the summon is defeated or the summoner is killed the summon dissipates and returns to wherever it was previously. If Ilnaine is stolen from its User while a summon is active, the new User gains control over the summon (even if the summon was possessing Ilnaine's previous User). Oress Holders can be summoned with Ilnaine, allowing them to be corporeal and leave their Users temporarily.
The Oress Holder Ilnaine (she/her or they/them) was previously a member of the Castle Oress Alliance who eventually defected to join Umbra's Alliance after being killed by them. She never joined officially, instead preferring to stalk them. She has a fascination for the abnormal and terrifying. It's difficult to get her to react negatively to anything, and as such she's very, very easy to synch and fuse with.
Fyel || Fire || Anger || Red
Fyel is capable of creating and manipulating fire as well as controlling heat. With Fyel one can make lava flow through the streets, bombard foes with fireballs, and get dinner started without having to wait for the oven to preheat. The larger and more intense the fire, the more energy it consumes. Burns caused by Fyel tend to leave intricate patterns on the skin and can last for up to a day, though they'll heal more quickly if the User who burned the victim loses Fyel. Fyel's User can cause the burns of whoever they've burned to flare up (sometimes involuntarily when the User is experiencing anger), lengthening the recovery process. The ability to do this ends once the User loses Fyel, even if they get it again before the burn has finished healing.
The Oress Holder Fyel (she/her) was previously a member of the Castle Oress Alliance who eventually went solo. She's bitter about the Competition and is difficult to get along with, though if you manage to befriend her she'll stand up for you no matter what.
Unzeh || Fauna || Courage || Vermillion
Unzeh gives the User the ability to summon animals, control them, communicate with them, and transform into them. Unzeh's User can also transform into animals, consuming more energy the longer they remain in animal form. In general, however, it's more efficient to adopt animalistic characteristics instead of transforming fully, such as giving oneself claws, sharp teeth, wings, horns, gills, or adorable cat ears. This extends beyond physical characteristics: the User of Unzeh could also give themself a bat's echolocation, a cat's reflexes, or the vision of a hawk. The more traits are taken on at once, the faster energy is drained.
The Oress Holder Unzeh (she/her) was previously in an alliance with Kleigh. She finished in 4th place. Was a primary instigator of violence during the Competition and as such is not seen fondly by most of the other Oress Holders. Her happiness and ergo willingness to cooperate hinges on Kleigh's presence, and as such it's recommended that their Oresses be kept together. She's always itching to fight, so anyone who's serious about winning the Competition should have no problem synching with her and fusing. In fact, her domineering personality might make her Oress dangerous for those with weak wills to wield.
Elmand || Barriers || Protectiveness || Orange
Elmand is capable of forming barriers. These barriers (taking the form of a solid orange light) can be used to defend oneself from attacks, though the more hits they take the more energy they drain from the User. Likewise, larger barriers take more effort to maintain. These barriers can be used offensively with enough creativity; for example, one could create a shield and use it to bash into others or create a barrier small enough to throw. The User can also use the barrier to reflect the attacks of others, though creating a reflective barrier naturally takes more energy than a normal barrier. The opacity of barriers can be adjusted to the User's liking, though making a barrier invisible takes more energy. Elmand's User also gains enhanced physical durability and heals in half of the time as other Tested.
The Oress Holder Elmand (he/him) was previously the leader of the Castle Oress Alliance. He has a strong sense of justice and dislikes unnecessary bloodshed, opting to play the Competition defensively instead. He feels it's his fault the Castle Oress Alliance fell and hates Josmec more than anyone else for betraying them all. Is willing to cooperate with anyone who has the Test Reality's best interests in mind. Probably won't synch well with those with loose morals.
Kinet || Physical || Vitality || Marigold
Kinet enhances the User's physical abilities tremendously. The User gains super strength, super speed, the ability to jump to unnatural heights, and the ability to perform incredible acrobatic maneuvers with ease. Similar to Elmand, Kinet's User gains increased durability and recovery time, though not quite to Elmand's extent. It has another passive ability in that it improves the User's reflex time and enhances the rest of their senses very slightly.
The Oress Holder Kinet (she/her) was previously a member of the Castle Oress Alliance. She's restless and won't back down from a challenge. She's relatively naive and is somewhat self-conscious about this, preferring to just speak through actions and fight whoever bugs her. She isn't too difficult to synch with - as long as you aren't extremely passive, defensive, or cruel she's fairly easy to get along with.
Atelobe || Teleportation || Anxiety || Light Yellow
Atelobe grants its User the ability to teleport. This power can be used to travel anywhere within the Test Reality and also allows the User to access Limbo for a limited period of time without having to die. The User can teleport others and objects as well, though this takes more energy and concentration. Less energy is used if the User is familiar with the location they're teleporting to and can visualize it very clearly. When it comes to teleporting others, less energy is used if the person being teleporting consents to it and/or the User is in physical contact with them and teleports alongside them.
The Oress Holder Atelobe (she/her) was previously part of a nonviolent partnership with Blizume. Together they avoided the Competition entirely and spent the duration of it traveling throughout the Test Reality. She's aloof and seldom speaks. She won't get in your way at all, but her apathetic attitude makes it difficult to synch with her.
Lirna || Light || Happiness || Yellow
Lirna gives its User the ability to produce and manipulate light as though it were a solid object. Lirna can produce blinding flashes, lasers, orbs of light, and small objects that last for a brief period of time. The User can alter the amount of light in an area, and they're able to see in any amount of light. Lirna can also be used to cause illusions, though said illusions can't be very complicated and are very temporary due to their energy cost. Light from Lirna can cause burns, but they heal faster than Fyel's burns. While Lirna's User can also cause burns to flare up, it's more literal than Fyel; either by will or unintentionally when the User is experiencing happiness, Lirna's User can cause their victim's burns to glow. Like Fyel the process is painful, but with Lirna the pain is very mild.
The Oress Holder Lirna (she/her) was previously a member of the Castle Oress Alliance. She's ever optimistic and likes peace, preferring to avoid fighting at all costs. When involved in a fight she only ever plays defensively and is constantly seeking a nonviolent way out. She's easy to synch with if you're pure of heart and friendly, but anyone who craves violence will have a hard time getting anywhere with her.
Thyx || Electricity || Excitement || Goldenrod
Thyx is capable of producing and controlling electricity. Thyx's User can fire lightning bolts, provide energy for electronics, and relentlessly harass others with static without even having to shuffle across the carpet. Thyx can cause burns like Fyel and Lirna and follows the same rules as them both. Thyx's burns glow like Lirna's (though more faintly), and have recovery and pain levels between the two Oresses.
The Oress Holder Thyx (he/him) was previously a member of the Castle Oress Alliance and was the first person to die during the Competition. He's desperate to fit in and be "cool" and relies on stereotypes of "cool" people to shape his character. He's gullible and cowardly, but also friendly and trustworthy. Gets a little nervous around people who are particularly cruel, but for the most part he's eager to get along with people and synch.
Vixis || Vision || Paranoia || Olive
Vixis has a wide variety of powers centered around vision: its User can utilize x-ray vision, see ultraviolet light, see perfectly in any amount of light, zoom in to see faraway objects, and also eye lasers. The Vixis User can control the eyes of others; they can see through the eyes of anyone of their choosing, control where they look, and temporarily switch around the views of others. Vixis drains less energy from the User if the eyes they're controlling are nearby and/or if the target is consenting. Vixis also allows its User to see all of the Oress Holders, anyone who's using Blizume, and with proper synching the User can view locations they aren't present in without needing to use anyone's eyes.
The Oress Holder Vixis (she/her) was previously a member of the Castle Oress Alliance but was more concerned with uncovering the mysteries surrounding the Competition and Test Reality. She's curious and inquisitive, functioning as an amateur detective and tackling any mystery she can get her hands on. So long as she's entertained, she's easy to synch with.
Crona || Time || Nostalgia || Chartreuse
Crona is capable of manipulating the flow of time. The User of Crona can temporarily slow down, speed up, or pause time. However, to keep things fair, during paused time the User cannot interact physically with others. This also applies when a User goes back in time; they can view events that previously occurred in the location they're in, but they won't be capable of altering anything.
